JAMES CABBAN

ABOUT JAMES

What do you specialise in at Hoops?
I specialise in Basketball Skills development and Coaching.

What’s one thing athletes can expect from your sessions?
They can expect a lot of different yet intense workouts that not only help you improve your tools for the game but also your IQ and fundamentals.

What’s your coaching style or philosophy?
I like to really challenge not just physically but, mentally. To never sweat the small stuff because that’s why we practice, because 1% is still getting better and last but not least, to have fun.

What’s your education/background in basketball?
I've played NBL1 for Penrith Panthers and internationally, as well as Hoops Sports Performance.

What do you want every athlete to walk away feeling after training with you?
That they learnt something they can take away and do in their own time as well. I want to really push every athlete to the best of their abilities and know that they had fun while doing it.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?
Honestly, just seeing the growth, development and enjoyment of their success and also their failures. Seeing a fire get lit up when they want to challenge themselves or even learn something.

Who's your favourite basketball player/athlete? Why?
That’s a tough one but definitely between Kobe and Steph. I think their raw dedication to their craft and how much faith they had not only in their own understanding but the man above and I think they’re just the greatest role models for anyone.

What’s a fun fact or something that athletes might not expect from you?
Something a lot of people probably won't know is that I’m a big Pokemon fan. Ever since I was a kid, it’s been my favourite.

Share your favourite motivational quote or piece of advice for athletes.
I have 2 but, one of them is from Tim Duncan (I’m pretty sure) he says:
“Good, better, best. Never let it rest, until your GOOD becomes BETTER and your better becomes your BEST.”

And the other one, I don’t know who it comes from but:
“Work hard when the stands are empty, so you can dominate when they’re full.”
