THOMAS GACIS

ABOUT TOM

What do you specialise in at Hoops?
I specialise in basketball strength and conditioning, helping athletes get stronger, move better, and perform at a higher level on the court.

What’s one thing athletes can expect from your sessions?
High energy, focus, and some solid banter. I like to keep it serious when it counts, but fun when it’s right.

What’s your coaching style or philosophy?
I’d say my style is transformation-focused. I care about helping athletes grow, not just physically, but in confidence, mindset, and accountability.

What’s your education/background in basketball/S&C?
I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Secondary Teaching at ACU. I’ve been playing basketball since I was 7 — started at local comps in Penrith and KBS, then moved into reps from U12s to Youth League. I’ve played for Penrith, Hills, Hawkesbury, and now Blacktown Storm since 2019.
Some highlights include competing at the U14 National Club Champs with Hills and representing Homegrown at NBTC 2023 in Manila.

What do you want every athlete to walk away feeling after training with you?
That they got better. Whether it's a small win or a breakthrough moment, I want athletes to leave knowing the session pushed them and moved them forward.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?
Being able to positively impact an athlete’s journey — even just making their day a little better, more productive, or more confident.

Who's your favourite basketball player/athlete? Why?
LeBron James. I shouldn't even have to explain it — he’s the King. Leader, longevity, IQ, dominance....

What’s a fun fact or something that athletes might not expect from you?
I’ve seen 2018 LeBron play in person in Boston. Arguably the best day of my life.
